Health Minister will address the 7th Annual Congress of Midwives of South
Africa:

The Minister's address will focus on the role of midwives in accelerating
the attainment of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), which is also the
theme for this year's congress.

She will put emphasis on the MDG 5, which focuses on improving maternal
health. Reduction of maternal mortality by three-quarters by 2015 is the target
for MDG 5. The Minister will also highlight positive developments around
maternal health and how these efforts could be sustained to further improve the
lives of women.

Her address will be followed by presentations from the World Health
Organisation (WHO) on the state of MDGs in Africa, and by researchers from the
Universities of KwaZulu-Natal and Witwatersrand.
