M Shilowa on passing away of A Tambo

Gauteng Premier pays tribute to Ma Adelaide Tambo

1 February 2007

Gauteng Premier Mbhazima Shilowa has learnt with great sadness of the
passing of struggle icon and activist Adelaide Tambo.

Ma Tambo, as she was affectionately known to the nation, will be greatly
missed. It is regrettable that her death came at a time when the nation is
preparing to celebrate the 90th anniversary of her late husband Oliver Reginald
Tambo.

We are, however, proud that she lived to witness the renaming of
Johannesburg International Airport after her late husband. We salute Ma Tambo
for her exceptional commitment to the struggle against apartheid and her
dedication to community service and nation building.

On behalf of the Gauteng Provincial Government and the people of Gauteng we
send our condolences to the Tambo family. Qinani idolo. Akwehlenga lungehli.
