Gauteng business people and senior government representatives to Moscow, Russia
next week.

The delegation leaves on Saturday, 14 July 2007 and the visit is expected to
lead to the implementation of joint economic projects and more foreign direct
investment into Gauteng which is required to grow the economy, create jobs and
reduce poverty.
The Premier and the Governor of the Regional Government of Moscow, I
Parhmenko, will sign a protocol of intention on co-operation in trade
promotion, tourism, small business development, e-governance, science and
technology, mineral beneficiation, sport development, visual arts, creative
industries, education exchange programmes as well as information communication
technology in schools.
The Regional Government of Moscow indicated an interest in strengthening
co-operation with Gauteng after a visit by Russian President Vladimir Putin to
South Africa in September last year.
Gauteng shares a number of similarities with Moscow. Similar to Gauteng,
Moscow is the seat of power for the Russian Federation and a significant
portion of Russia's economic activity is situation in Moscow because of the
concentration of multi-national corporations in the region.
The Gauteng MEC for Economic Development, Paul Mashatile, MEC for Education
Angie Motshekga and MEC for Sports, Arts, Culture and Recreation Barbara Creecy
will form part of the delegation.
