A delegation from France's Ile-de-France region, led by President Jean-Paul
Huchon, will be visiting Gauteng from 30 June to 3 July 2007.
During the visit, President Huchon and his delegation will meet with Premier
Mbhazima Shilowa and the Gauteng Executive Council on 2 July. Discussions will
focus on strengthening the existing twinning agreement between Gauteng and
Ile-de-France.
Shilowa and Huchon signed a co-operation agreement on 4 December 2001 to
strengthen the bond of friendship and co-operation between Gauteng and
Ile-de-France.
In terms of the agreement, the two regions co-operate on mutually beneficial
matters with a specific focus on the areas of public transport, economic
development, social services and health, education and professional training,
and the environment.
This visit is aimed at further strengthening relations between the two
regions and to identify further areas for co-operation.
