Nkoana-Mashabane will be embarking on a Municipal visit programme
10 April 2007
The MEC for Local Government and Housing Mme Maite Nkoana-Mashabane will be
embarking on a Municipal visit programme as from 12 to 20 April 2007. The
purpose of the visits is to interact with Municipalities and establish a common
approach in resolving challenges of service delivery.
The MEC will be accompanied by the Head of Department Mr Leshabe Rampedi and
senior officials from the Department of Local Government and Housing.
Municipalities as service delivery agents of government are critical in the
delivery of quality services and the MEC wants to ensure that they are
capacitated to deliver as expected by communities. Commenting on the importance
of the visits the MEC said "We are committed to the fight against poverty and
underdevelopment. In this regard, we shall work with our municipalities to
unblock blockages to service delivery and accelerate the provision of water,
electricity, proper sanitation and quality houses to our people."
With the "turnaround strategy" in housing beginning to bear fruits, the MEC
wants to ensure that the Municipalities are on board to ensure implementation
is not hampered. The MEC will also launch completed housing projects in the
municipalities to be visited.
The schedule for municipal visits is as follows:
1. Greater Giyani
Date: 12 April 2007
2. Greater Letaba
