The KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Agriculture and Environmental Affairs, Mtholephi
Mthimkhulu welcomes the swift action by members of the SAPS who have arrested
and charged three alleged instigators of violence during the departmentâs event
at Sahlumbe, Weenen on Tuesday.
The MEC had been invited by local Izinduna to discuss issues of agricultural
development when a group of Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) members stormed in and
vandalised chairs and vehicles before brutally attacking staff members of the
department and service providers.
This vindicates us from lies that were spread by the IFP leadership around
circumstances of the incident.
We call on the justice department to impose heavy penalties on these
violence perpetrators that will serve as an example to anybody that thinks
government activities should be used as battle ground of settling political
scores.
We appeal to all political parties, in particular the IFP, to inculcate the
spirit of tolerance among their members.
We also call upon members of SAPS to be merciless when dealing with
criminals that disrupt government activities regardless of their party
affiliation.
Together we can do more to eradicate political tolerance in our country!
Masilime sinakekele imvelo ukuze silwe nendlala nezifo KwaZulu-Natali!
