KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Agriculture and Environmental Affairs Honourable
Mtholephi Mthimkhulu today (Wednesday, 1 August 2007) announced the appointment
of Advocate Modidima Mannya as the new Head of Department for the provincial
Department of Agriculture and Environmental Affairs.
Advocate Mannya's appointment is with effect from today, 1 August 2007. His
appointment comes at a time when the department has begun to turn the corner as
it is grapples with the implementation of the turnaround strategy following an
Internal Audit Report which identified certain weaknesses in the financial
management environment during the 2004/05 and 2005/06 financial years.
"The appointment of Advocate Mannya will go a long way in restoring the
credibility and faith in the department in the eyes of the taxpayers. We hope
that it will also galvanise our workforce to speed up service delivery," said
MEC Mthimkhulu.
Mannya, a renowned public service corruption-buster of note, hails from
Gauteng and has got many years of experience in public service administration
at senior level. During 2001, he headed the Eastern Cape Department of
Education as a Superintendent-General. In addition he has been presided over
many public and private sector labour disputes.
Advocate Mannya will be formally introduced to the public when MEC
Mthimkhulu addresses the Provincial Legislature on Thursday, 2 August 2007,
when the MEC delivers his quarterly report since the new financial year began
on 1 April 2007.
