KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Agriculture and Environmental Affairs Mtholephi
Mthimkhulu (MPL) and the Acting Head of Department Siddiq Adam would like to
express their deepest condolences to the family and relatives of a department
employee who was killed in a freak accident involving a tractor today
(Wednesday, 25 July 2007) at the Department's Cedara Head Office.
Earlier today a tractor driver attached to the Department's farm section was
busy with other colleagues repairing a water hydrant within the Cedara
agricultural complex when the tractor he was driving overturned and landed on
him. Paramedics responded, but sadly attempts to save his life and he passed
away at the scene. His name cannot be released at this stage as his next of kin
has not yet been officially informed.
The 42 year old employee had been reversing the tractor which was pulling a
trailer on a steep incline when the tractor lost traction and flipped over
before landing on him. Police were called on the scene and have since opened an
inquest docket.
"I am deeply saddened by the sudden death of our colleague and on behalf of
the entire staff of the Department of Agriculture and Environmental Affairs, I
would like to send our deepest condolences to his family and relatives. We pray
that they will find strength during this difficult period," said MEC
Mthimkhulu.
