The North West Department of Social Development will launch the Marele
Agricultural Cooperative in Austrey village in the Kagisano Local
Municipality.
The project is part of the implementation of the poverty eradication
strategy aimed at escalating the high level of poverty, unemployment, skills
development and women empowerment among others.
During the 2006/07 financial year, the department availed an amount of over
R2 million for the project to undertake activities such as goat farming, job
creation and empowerment of rural poor.
So far, the project has 97 goats on site and further created about 31 jobs
for the unemployed men and women. This project is situated at the Dr Ruth
Segomotsi Mompati District which has been declared a nodal area in terms of
poverty alleviation and development.
