M Mdladlana on wage dispute in private security industry

Private security strike: Minister calls for speedy
solution

22 March 2006

Labour Minister Membathisi Mdladlana has urged parties involved in the wage
dispute affecting the private security industry to return to talks and seek an
amicable solution to this matter.

Commenting on the looming massive national strike in which thousands of
guards will be downing tools, following unsuccessful negotiations with
employers in the sector, Minister Mdladlana expressed concern about the failure
by the parties to reach consensus.

“It is regrettable that this dispute had to deteriorate to an industrial
action despite months of negotiations. I urge both parties to reconsider their
stance as the strike will not be in the best interests of either party,” he
said.
