Labour Minister Membathisi Mdladlana is to visit the People's Republic of
China on Sunday, 31 March, at the end of the 298th session of the International
Labour Organisation (ILO) governing body meeting in Geneva.
The visit by the Minister to China is a follow up to the visit by the
Chinese Vice Minister of Labour and Social Security in October 2006, where an
extension of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed by the two
Ministers on 9 October.
The two countries agreed to co-operate on the following areas:
* small business development with specific focus on promoting small, medium
and micro enterprises (SMMEs) and stimulate job creation
* re-employment of retrenched workers through applicable social plans,
hydroponics farming
* labour market policies and institutions and any other areas as may be
decided.
The delegation will further have a meeting with the youth federation to
discuss challenges faced by youth of today, as well as meet the labour and
employer representatives in China.
