Solution
18 January 2007
As about 1 000 USB security guards entered the second day of their strike
today, Labour Minister Membathisi Mdladlana has urged both the workers and the
employer to try and find a solution to their differences.
The South African Transport and Allied Workers Union (Satawu) affiliated
guards, who protect mostly government, municipality and Telkom premises among
others, yesterday marched to the Johannesburg headquarters of the company as
part of their indefinite strike.
"We urge both parties to make use of all legal mechanisms at their disposal
to ensure the dispute does not go out of hand, and that a solution is found as
quickly as possible to avoid the regrettable scenes similar to those that
marred last year's dispute," the Minister said.
