Domestic workers in the Stellenbosch area of Western Cape are set to enjoy
the bringing of governance right at their door step when Labour Minister
Membathisi Mdladlana and the department's various programmes will be embarking
on a one-day Imbizo to provide services.
The gathering at the Van De Sports Club in the town centre on Sunday will
see domestic workers instantly accessing various services, including
registering for Unemployment Insurance Fund, and verifying the status of their
standing registrations through the system that will be at their service, while
employers will be able to make enquiries on proper ways of registering their
workers for various employment requirements.
What domestic workers and their employers should know about minimum wages
and conditions of employment will also top the agenda for the day.
True to its form as a service for domestic workers, the Imbizo has been
scheduled for Sunday afternoon so as to accommodate those who will go to work
first or attend church services and other social gatherings. The media is
invited. Details of venue, directions, time and programme are attached.
