Budget Speech
21 May 2007
The North West MEC for the Department of Agriculture, Conservation and
Environment, Mr Mandlenkosi Mayisela will stand before the Provincial
Legislature a happy Member of the Executive Committee, as he will be announcing
a 97,2% expenditure mark of all funds allocated to his department at the
previous financial year, as opposed to the dismal 11% spending in 2005. This
achievement, to be announced on Thursday, 24 May 2007 when he presents his
departmental Budget Speech, was made possible by the implementation of the
turnaround strategy he unveiled last year.
"Although the challenge in the agricultural sector remains the broadening of
access to markets for emerging farmers, the turnaround strategy that was
devised to unlock impediments to service delivery, has yielded positive
results. Other achievements we take pride in are the alignment of our district
services with local government districts boundaries to ensure the integration
of our strategic projects with municipal Integrated Development Plans (IDPs).
Among other achievements, we also successfully introduced the Nguni breed into
the North West," says MEC Mayisela.
On the ecotourism front, a number of positive developments have taken place,
such as the significant progress in developing the Taung Child Skull and the
Vredefort Dome as World Heritage sites. MEC Mayisela will also highlight his
department's strategic focus areas for the coming year. MEC Mayisela will
present the departmental Budget Vote before the North West Legislature on
Thursday, 24 May 2007, starting at 11h00.
