Tabling of Astronomy Geographic Advantage and Human Sciences
Research Council Bills

The Minister of Science and Technology, Mosibudi Mangena, will table the
Astronomy Geographic Advantage (AGA) and the Human Sciences Research Council
(HSRC) Bills in the National Assembly, Parliament on 13 September 2007.

The purpose of the AGA Bill is to provide for the preservation and
protection of areas within South Africa that are uniquely suited for optical
and radio astronomy.

The purpose of the HSRC Bill is to repeal and substitute the Human Sciences
Research Council Act, 1968 (Act No 23 of 1968) and thereby provide for the
continued existence of the HSRC.
