The MEC for Education, Mrs Mmathulare Coleman will on 15 April 2009
(re-opening of schools) visit Magwagwaza Secondary School and Seganyane Primary
school at Greenvalley in Bushbuckridge Region.
This is part of the departmental endeavour to welcome educators, learners
and all relevant stakeholders on the day of re-opening of schools.

Quality Improvement, Development, Support and Upliftment Programme
(QIDS-UP)
The MEC will officially hand over eight new additional classrooms, 20 new
additional toilets, one science laboratory, one kitchen, paving and an alarm
system at Swartklip Combined School in Nkangala Region.
At the same time, Swartklip Combine will get additional learning and
teaching resources in the form of numeracy kits, literacy kits, equipment for
computer centre and library materials will also be provided.
The school will also be provided with one computer and four in one printer
for administrative purpose.
Learning support assistants were appointed to support foundation phase
educators with reading and numeracy development and receive a stipend of R2 000
per month.
500 other schools in the province that benefited from the QIDS-UP programme
through the provision of teaching resources and training of teachers. 100 of
these received 25 workstations, printers, light projectors and alarm systems
for establishment of computer centres and were also provided with learning
support assistants for literacy and numeracy promotion.

Launch of Quality Leaning and Teaching Campaign
The MEC with Education stakeholders will on 17 April 2009 launch the Quality
Learning and Teaching Campaign at Mzinoni sport grounds at 13h00.
This campaign was initially launched by the Minister of Education, Mrs
Naledi Pandor on 9 October 2008 and all provinces are expected to cascade the
campaign.
The focus is to encourage parents, learners, educators and the community at
larger to meaningfully add their voices and commitments for the improvement of
education in this country.
The campaign calls on all individuals and organisations to assume
responsibility for improving the quality of education. The elements of the
campaign will:
* inform citizens about the importance of education, and their roles
responsibilities and obligations towards education
* mobilise communities to monitor and support schools, teachers and
learners
* improve the quality of education for all children, especially the poor, and
to demonstrate this improved quality through better learner achievements.
