Delays with regards to Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF) registrations,
inadequate advocacy campaigns on domestic workers sectoral determination and
clashes between employers and employees will soon be history in the Northern
Eastern Cape, following the launch of the Domestic Workers Forum in Mount Frere
near Kokstad.
The Forum which has representative of domestic workers from 14 municipal
wards of uMzimvubu is set to highlight the plight of workers in regards to
their rights. It will also take into cognisance the training needs of domestic
workers by allowing community representatives to play a meaningful role in
identifying skills needs within their respective wards.
The local labour centre will assist in the training and acquisition of
certain skills while community representatives will receive continuous training
on the domestic sectoral determination on a quarterly basis.
The Mount Ayliff Labour Centre will be launching the Domestic Forum in Mount
Ayliff on Saturday, 3 March 2007.
