The Minister of Minerals and Energy, Mrs Lindiwe Hendricks, invites you to a
one-day workshop on nuclear energy. The aim of the workshop is to promote
nuclear awareness and provide nuclear energy information to media.
The objective of the workshop is to inform the media on nuclear sector
issues from the perspective of government and nuclear sector role players, to
broaden the general publicâs understanding of nuclear related issues, as well
as to increase awareness of the benefits of the peaceful use and application of
nuclear energy and its technologies. The workshop will highlight and address
issues such as:
* The overview and governance of South African nuclear sector and the role
of the international Atomic Energy Agency,
* The nuclear fuel cycle, operation of the Koeberg nuclear power station and
radio active waste management,
* Safety regulation,
* Nuclear Non Proliferation (RSA Non Proliferation Policy) and history of
safeguards implementation and additional protocol,
* The future of South African nuclear sector,
* The global trends in nuclear energy and the South African Pebble Bed Modular
Reactor technology.
