MEC Cele to officiate taking services to the people
indaba

13 March 2009

KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison Mr Bheki Cele,
MEC for Health, Peggy Nkonyeni and MEC for Arts and Culture Weziwe Thusi, will
attend Taking Services to the People Indaba, which will be held at Ingwavuma,
Manyiseni Court ground at 9h00 on Tuesday, 17 March 2009.

MEC Cele was contacted by concerned Ingwavuma Zibambele contractors
regarding deductions made on their social grants by South African Social
Security Agency (SASSA). The actual reasons for deductions were unknown and the
contractors appealed to the MEC to intervene. Therefore, MEC Cele will respond
to the contractors' grievances.

The department so far has 821 Zibambele contractors and they are clustered
into 41 clubs. The Department of Health will officially open a Manyiseni
Clinic, a medium clinic with four consulting rooms and a maternity ward. The
clinic also consists of three single residential units, one double residential
unit, gatehouse, visitors' toilet block and a carport. The clinic serves a
population of approximately 6 500 people and an average of 1 500 patients are
served at the clinic per month.

The clinic will bring the improvement of the lives of the community through
the provision and improvement of quality healthcare. The budget allocated for
the Manyiseni Clinic is R11,7 million.

"Job creation and poverty alleviation are the fundamental challenges that
government is vigorously fighting. Zibambele women play a very significant role
in their families and the community at large as it is set to empower and
upgrade the lives of rural women. As the department we are committed in
ensuring that this initiative favours the poorest of the poor so that they
could benefit and also to acknowledge them for their hard work," said Cele.
