KwaZulu-Natal Public Works on Construction Industry

Media release

10 September 2007

As the Department of Public Works is mandated with the provision of
infrastructure accommodation for the State and maintenance of government
properties, the Real Estate is expected to encourage youth and women
participation in the public sector, property market. The role then means that
our major stakeholders are contractors and consultants within the property and
construction sectors.

Taking a look at the construction industry at large, the department is
facing a challenge of shortage of skills in the built environment i.e. civil
engineers, electrical engineers, mechanical engineers, quantity surveyors as
well as architects. Therefore, the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Public Works is
hosting a briefing whereby National diplomats and prospective employees, in the
field of engineering as per above-mentioned disciplines are invited and will be
addressed by the MEC, Mrs Lydia Johnson and General Managers in Operations,
Corporate Services and Real Estate Directorates.

The Department is committed to assist prospective employees on
technicalities that might disqualify them from being considered. They will be
informed about the selection procedure and what the department expect from them
when responding to the vacancy. The presenters will also highlight a number of
vacancies available in the department as well as salary package thereof.
