The Gauteng MEC for Agriculture, Conservation and Environment, Khabisi
Mosunkutu, will revisit Household Food Security community initiative projects
aimed at poverty alleviation in Sedibeng.
Mosunkutu will revisit the Palmodeeva Community Project, initiated in 2001,
as part of evaluating the sustainability of the project and congratulating the
three women who have been with the project since its inception. The second
project to be visited will be the 17-hectare Iketsetseng Agricultural
Development Trust that grows tomatoes through a hydroponics tunnel.
Accompanying MEC Mosunkutu will be the Chairperson of Gauteng Provincial
Standing Committee on Agriculture, Nomantu Nkomo�Ralehoko, Sedibeng District
Municipal Mayor Mlungisi Hlongwane, Mayor of Emfulweni, Dikeledi Tsotetsi and
community project leaders.
The programme will end with the MEC addressing the community about the
departmental Women Empowerment Programme Operational Plan that includes
Homestead Food Gardens, the Hydroponics Tunnel, Bontle ke Botho (BkB) and other
poverty alleviation activities.
