Mosunkutu to table 2007/08 agriculture budget

Gauteng MEC for Agriculture, Conservation and Environment Khabisi Mosunkutu
will deliver his departmental Budget Vote for the 2007/08 financial year and
unveil new plans to extend poverty alleviation, job creation programmes and
building of healthy and sustainable communities.

The budget policy for the 2007/08 financial year is expected to provide
details of the roll-out of agricultural hubs and how these will contribute to
the provincial Gross Domestic Product (GDP). Integrated Food Security
programmes are also to take centre stage in poverty alleviation and boosting
the health status of people infected and affected by HIV and AIDS.

Upgraded nature reserves contributing to available holiday and breakaway
facilities in the province will also be given prominence in the budget speech
presentation.

The Pet Care Campaign which also promotes community health through
prevention of communicable animal diseases is expected to be extended during
the financial year under discussion.

The Budget Vote presentation will also provide details of implementation of
commitments made by Premier Mbhazima Shilowa during the opening of the Gauteng
legislature in February this year.
