Justice to host conference on Restorative Justice, 21 Sept

Department of Justice and Constitutional Development co-host an
international conference in Cape Town

In pursuance of promotion of the national unity and reconciliation process,
the Department of Justice and Constitutional Development, together with the
Institute of Criminology of the University of Cape Town, Centre for the Study
of Violence and Reconciliation, and the Law Society Institute of the Catholic
University of Leuven in Belgium, will co-host an international conference in
Cape Town entitled, "The Politics of Restorative Justice in Post-conflict South
Africa and Beyond".

The Department will address the conference on Truth and Reconciliation
Commission (TRC) recommendations that relate to restorative justice and
particularly with further investigations and exhumations, memorialisation
involving TRC survivors, reconciliation initiatives, and services for survivors
with regard to medical, legal and education by relevant government departments,
as well as access to information by victims to information in the TRC
archives.

The conference will take place as follows:
Date: Thursday, 21 - Friday, 22 September 2006
Time: 08h00
Venue: Monkey Valley, Noord Hoek
The conference will be held for two days and the programme will be available at
the venue.
