Wellness Centre
30 March 2009
The Northern Cape Provincial MEC of Health, Mr JF van Wyk, will officially
launch the new Colesberg High Transmission Area (HTA) Wellness Centre. The
event will take place at the Shell Ultra City outside Colesberg on the N1
Highway Enroute Bloemfontein in the Pixley-Ka-Seme District of the Northern
Cape Province.
High Transmission Areas (HTAâs) are geographical regions or definable
populations of people who are particularly susceptible to transmission of
sexually transmitted illnesses (STIâs) including HIV. The HTA service point is
a definable healthcare service intervention that emphasizes healthcare issues
specific to the burden of the HTA.
The service point may be an entire facility, a mobile clinic or
alternatively an integrated focus within an existing facility driven by a
dedicated individual or team of health workers with appropriate skills and
experience. The services specific to HTA is an integral part to the package of
Primary Health Care (PHC) services offered by any environment confronted by HIV
and AIDS. It is in this light that such a centre is launched in Colesberg based
on the target group identified namely the trucking community that travels
through Colesberg.
The partners in this project that contributed immensely to the success of
the project are the Northern Cape Provincial and District Department of Health,
the Pixley-ka-Seme District Municipality, the Umsobomvu Local Municipality,
Trucking Wellness, Shell Ultra City and Greenfield Management Solutions.
Other dignitaries expected to accompany the MEC of Health are: members of
the Provincial Portfolio Committee of health, executive mayor and mayor of
Pixley-Ka-Seme District Municipality and Umsobomvu local municipality
respectively, representatives from Shell, Trucking Wellness, Northern Cape
Department of Health and Greenfield Management Solutions.
