South Africa hosts the Sixth Ordinary Session of the African
Population Commission General Assembly

13 July 2007

The Deputy Minister for Social Development Dr Jean Swanson-Jacobs will open
the sixth Ordinary Session of the African Population Commission General
Assembly which will be held at the Sandton Convention Centre in Johannesburg,
on Monday, 16 July 2007 at 09h00.

The African Population Commission (APC) General Assembly is held every two
years to address among others issues pertaining to population and development
in Africa.

The theme for this year's African Population Commission is, "Policy
Implications of the African Population" and will be attended by the Ministers
of Social Development and Health in Africa. The following reports will be
tabled during this year's sitting: the State of the African Population Report
2006 and the general debate on the policy implications of the State of the
African Population report 2006, Regional Fora Reports, Report of the Special
Session of the African Ministers of Health on Sexual and Reproduction Health
and Rights (SRHR), Maputo, Mozambique and the report of the Sino-Africa
Co-operation.
