National Commissioner Jackie Selebi has advised that, just as he is saddened
at the violent death of any person in this country, he was deeply shocked and
saddened to hear of the senseless murder of Mr David Rattray. Commissioner
Selebi conveyed his condolences to Mr Rattray's loved ones and said that he
knows that the KwaZulu-Natal police will use all available resources to bring
those responsible to book.
Commissioner Selebi also expressed his disappointment that his response to a
specific question at the Standing Committee on Public Accounts (SCOPA)
committee, relating to the Soccer World Cup 2010, was twisted into a
generalisation on crime.
"My top management and I are very serious about fighting crime and 100%
committed to reducing the levels of violent crime in this country," said the
National Commissioner.
