J Selebi on appointment of new Deputy National Commissioner M
Stander

Appointment of Deputy National Commissioner

26 February 2007

I am delighted to announce that, as from 1 March 2007, Divisional
Commissioner Magda Stander will be appointed in the post of Deputy National
Commissioner, joining my four other Deputies, Tim Williams, Andre Pruis, Mala
Singh and Hamilton Hlela on my immediate management team.

Commissioner Stander is presently the Divisional Commissioner in charge of
Personnel Services, a post she has managed with great efficiency since November
1999.

Magda is a career policewoman, having done her basic training in the
Pretoria Police College and, after successfully graduating, becoming a
constable at Sunnyside Police Station in 1973. She worked her way up through
the ranks and joined the personnel services environment in 1983 with the rank
of Captain. Commissioner Stander then remained in the human resources
environment and continued rising through the ranks as a result of her
dedication, discipline and outstanding work ethic.

Commissioner Stander's calm leadership, extraordinary sense of
responsibility, commitment to duty and expertise in the human resources field
are all qualities which convinced me that she was the logical candidate to fill
the post of Deputy National Commissioner.

I wish her all the very best in her new post and I know that she will make a
great success of the task, just as she has of every other duty assigned to her.
Commissioner Stander grew up and was educated in the Northern Cape and
presently resides in Pretoria with her husband, Hennie.
