The Minister of Transport, Honourable Jeff Radebe, will tomorrow morning at
08h00 take a train trip from Cape Town Station to Khayelitsha, as part of the
public transport month and pay a site visit to the Khayelitsha rail line
extension. The Minister will use the opportunity to assess the progress that is
being made in the implementation of the project. The rail line extension is
estimated to cost well over R300 million, this alone confirms that government
investment in public transport infrastructure is on the rise.

The Minister will also use the opportunity to outline major projects and the
turnaround strategy that the newly consolidated South African Rail Commuter
Corporation-Metrorail is undertaking to make rail transport fashionable.
