South Africa's Acting Minister of Health Jeff Radebe will host the 3rd
Ordinary Session of the African Union Conference of Ministers of Health from 9
to 13 April 2007 at the Sandton Convention Centre in Johannesburg.
The conference organised and held under the auspices of the African Union,
will be attended by Health Ministers from across the continent, senior health
officials from AU member states, United Nations (UN) Agencies, international
organisations and non-government organisations among others.
The following are some of the key issues that will be under consideration
during the five-day conference that will be opened by South Africa's Deputy
President, Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka:
* Human Resources Plan for Health
* Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Plan for Africa
* draft implementation plan for the outcomes of the May 2006 Abuja Special
Summit on HIV/AIDS, TB and Malaria
* launch of Africa Malaria Strategy
* draft plan of action on violence prevention
* State of African Traditional Medicine.
One of the key outcomes of the conference will be the adoption of the
African Health Strategy and a Declaration on Health System Strengthening in
Africa for Equity and Development. Members of the media are invited to attend
and cover the conference. The official opening on 10 April 2007 and the closing
on 13 April 2007 is open to members of the media. Accreditation of delegates
and media representatives will take place on 7 April 2007 from 08h00 to 18h00
at the conference venue.
Journalists are urged to present their press cards upon accreditation.
