Results of the by-elections

The Deputy Chief Electoral Officer of the Independent Electoral Commission
(IEC) Mr Mosotho Moepya said in Pretoria today, 27 September 2007, that the
African National Congress won six of the nine contested wards, the Democratic
Alliance two and an independent candidate one in the municipal ward
by-elections which took place yesterday.

Voter turnout varied between 8,36 percent and 47,93 percent with an average
of 15,87 percent.

Ward four in Nketoana Reitz Municipality – FS193, Free State, was
uncontested. Jabula Roy Msimanga of the African National Congress is the new
councillor.

The other new councillors for the African National Congress are:

* Pakiso Monica Mohlolo in Ward 8 and Thomas Lemperoame Makau in Ward 12,
both in Moqhaka, Kroonstad Municipality – FS201 in the Free State
* Tankiso Michael Fafuli in Ward 22, City of Johannesburg, Gauteng
* Sizwe Gladman Ndlela in Ward 4, Impendle Municipality – KZN224,
KwaZulu-Natal
* Mantu Magaret Dyonase in Ward 26, Merafong City, Carletonville Municipality –
NW405, North West.

The two new councillors for the Democratic Alliance are:

* Vincent Lawrence Earp in Ward 103, in City of Johannesburg, Gauteng
* Henry Charles Hartley in Ward 16, in Rustenburg Municipality – NW373, North
West.

Memory Booysen, an independent candidate, is the new councillor in Ward six
in Bitou, Greater Plettenberg Bay Municipality – WC047 in the Western Cape.
