The Deputy Chief Electoral Officer of the Independent Electoral Commission
(IEC), Mosotho Moepya, said today (10 December) that the African National
Congress won three of the contested wards, whereas the Democratic Alliance and
Independent Democrats each won one ward in the municipal ward by-elections
which took place on 5 December 2007.
Voter turnout varied between 20,24% and 41,44% with an average of
25,03%.
Ward 3 in George â (George) Municipality â WC044, Western Cape was
uncontested. The new councillor is Theunis Jacobus Botha of the Democratic
Alliance.
In the Eastern Cape, the African National Congress and Independent Democrats
each won one ward.
* In Ward 1 in King Sabata Dalindyebo (Umtata) Municipality â EC157, the new
councillor is Notyatyambo Rose Gcingca of African National Congress.
* In Ward 49 in Nelson Mandela Bay (Port Elizabeth) Municipality - NMA, the
new councillor is Errol Derick Joseph of the Independent Democrats.
In the Northern Cape, the two contested wards in Tsantsabane (Postmasburg)
Municipality â NC085 were both won by the African National Congress:
* the new councillor in Ward 2 is Mosebiemang Jan Tonyane,
* in Ward 3 the new councillor is Mathhews Mothusiotsile Mogorosi.
