It has come to the attention of the Electoral Commission (IEC) that there is
speculation concerning the number of candidates that have been disqualified for
the coming municipal elections.
The Chief Electoral Officer, Adv Pansy Tlakula, said that in terms of the
Election Timetable for the 2006 Municipal Elections published on 6 January 2006
parties who had submitted party lists by 17:00 on Thursday, 19 January 2006,
had until 24 January 2006 to submit outstanding documents. These outstanding
documents are now under consideration.
She further said that the Electoral Commission wishes to indicate that the
final list of candidates who qualify to stand in the March 1, 2006 Municipal
Elections will only be released on Monday, 30 January 2006, as per the Election
Timetable.
