I Cronje to launch Learner Transport Programme, 26 Feb

KwaZulu-Natal Department of Education launches Learner
Transport

24 February 2009

Going to school is usually an exciting and fun experience for young
inquisitive minds. But for many learners in rural areas their journey to school
is long and exhausting. This often results in poor attendance and performance
by learners in deep rural and far flung areas. This will soon be a thing of the
past for many learners in the Vryheid District as the MEC for Education Mrs Ina
Cronjé will be launching the Learner Transport Programme on Thursday, 26
February 2009.

In her 2008/09 Budget Speech the MEC said, "This initiative will give our
children in rural areas greater access to education and their parents and
guardians peace of mind," said the MEC. Details of the launch are as
follows:

Date: Thursday, 26 February 2009
Time: 11h00
Venue: Siyaphakama School (Nongoma)

The Learner Transport Programme will be launched at Siyaphakama School which
stands to receive nine kombis which will transport learners to and from school
via five routes. During this event MEC Cronjé will fully outline the programme
and the roll out plan.

The media is invited to attend the abovementioned event. Transport is
available and will depart from Durban at 07h30 on Thursday, 26 February
2009.
