Trust to invite members of the media to a news briefing on the launch of their
Human Rights Conference
9 March 2009
The South African Human Rights Commission in conjunction with the Freedom
Park Trust, invites members of the media to a news briefing on the official
launch of the two organisations joint third Human Rights Conference, which will
be held at Freedom Park on Wednesday, 11 March 2009 at 10h00.
At this briefing the Commission CEO Advocate Tseliso Thipanyane, and the
Freedom Park CEO Dr Wally Serote, are expected to sign a Memorandum of
Understanding to mark the two organisations' official cooperation, and also
address the media.
This conference which is expected to be held on 18 and 19 March 2009 also at
Freedom Park, forms part of the two organisation's Human Rights Month
celebrations to mark 21 March, Human Rights Day. It is expected that the
conference will culminate in free music concert by music icons such as
Sibongile Khumalo, Sipho "Hotstix" Mabuse, Ringo Madlingozi, and others.
This year's Human Rights Month is very critical to the history of this
country as it happens on the eve of the highly contested fourth democratic
elections and also on the back of the 15 year government review which assessed
the state of South Africa since the first democratic elections which ushered in
the new dispensation in 1994.
Some of the speakers at this conference are expected to share their insights
on how South Africa has fared in the last 15 years.
