Home Affairs on transit shelter for refugees reports

There is no transit shelter for refugees

5 October 2007

The Department of Home Affairs wishes to clarify a misleading media report
that appeared in one of the daily publications on 4 October 2007.

The report claimed that Department of Home Affairs had "confirmed" plans to
set up transit facilities for asylums seekers. This is incorrect.

As part of efforts to streamline the processing of asylum seeker's
applications a possibility to establish additional Refugee Reception Centres is
being discussed.

This has no bearing on Zimbabwean refugees per se. The location of reception
centres will be determined by the need of services.

No special transit facilities are contemplated by the Department of Home
Affairs.
