Health invites HIV, AIDS and TB NGOs to apply for funding

More funding for AIDS and TB NGOs

The Department of Health is inviting national non-governmental organisations
(NGOs) working in the field of HIV, AIDS and tuberculosis (TB) to apply for
funding for 2006/07 financial year, which commences on 1 April 2006.

The Department has increased the budget allocated for support of national
NGOs involved in the response to AIDS and TB from R49 million in current
financial year (2005/06) to R56 million in the next financial year
(2006/07).

NGOs are considered to be national entities if they provide a service in
three or more provinces. Funds will be made available to eligible organisations
providing the following services:

* Governance and Programme Leadership
* Community/Home-Based Care
* Treatment Adherence Counselling Including TB Directly Observed Treatment
Strategy
* High Transmission Areas Interventions
* Voluntary Counselling and Testing Services
* HIV and AIDS Life Skills Programme including peer education.

Applicants must be registered as a non-profit organisation and have a
constitution and a functioning governing board. They are required to submit a
copy of financial policy signed by the Board and demonstration of a good track
record in HIV, AIDS and TB service delivery will be a recommendation.

Applicants will have to fill in application forms which are obtainable from
provincial and national Department of Health offices. This should be
accompanied by a business plan detailing schematic plan and budget for funds
requested and details of other sources of funding.

Applicants should also submit letters of recommendation from the HIV and
AIDS programme managers within their respective provinces where the NGO is
operating.

All applications should be submitted to the Department of Health by 12:00
midday, 6 February 2006 and posted to (att: Ms T Mthombeni) National NGO
Co-ordination Unit, National Department of Health, Private Bag X828, Pretoria
0001 or can be hand-delivered at Room 1603, Hallmark Building, Proes Street,
Pretoria.
