20 April 2009
In an effort to promote home ownership to individuals previously denied an
opportunity of owning property, North West MEC for Developmental Local
Government and Housing, Howard Yawa will handover title deeds to the first
batch of beneficiaries of a housing discount benefit scheme of over R190
million. 251 title deeds are to be handed to residents of Atamelang near
Delarayville at Atamelang Community Hall in Tswaing Local Municipality on
Monday, 20 April 2009 at 17h00.
Over 9 000 account holders to properties that belonged to North West Housing
Corporation (NWHC) spread across North West, Gauteng, Free State and Northern
Cape Provinces benefited from the discount benefit scheme when the corporation
and MEC Yawa wrote off previous debts on the properties which included
instalment and compound interest. The discounts given include:
* Goodwill discounts of up to R10 000 per person
* Extended discount benefit scheme of R7 500 per person.
A further 189 title deeds are to be handed over to beneficiaries in
Atamelang in the next two weeks. The balance of 363 title deeds is targeted for
handover by the end of May 2009 after final verification of occupants to
complete the handover of 803 title deeds to beneficiaries in the area.
Meanwhile, the NWHC has also started a project to upgrade 443 old stock
houses worth R13,2 million inherited from the old apartheid governments in
Atamelang to increase the value of the houses by R17,2 million before handing
them over to beneficiaries. R39 000 is to be spend on renovation of each house
to increase their market value.
