Sceptics are expected to eat humble pie when North West MEC for
Developmental Local Government and Housing, Howard Yawa hands over the Willow
Park emergency housing project on Tuesday, 31 March 2009 outside Zeerust.
North West Commissioner for Gender Equality, the Honourable Reverend Bafana
Khumalo overstepped the commissionâs mandate during SABC2 Morning Liveâs
broadcast on Monday, 12 January 2009 when he called for MEC Yawaâs resignation,
should the project not be completed by the end of March as per his
commitment.
Daily Sun also published an article titled "Poor and forgotten" on page 8 of
14 January 2009 and emphasised that: âIt's election time. The air is thick with
promises from politicians who want your vote. All of them talk about 'service
delivery' and a 'better life for all'. But often that is not what happens in
the real world.â
In a week and a half's time, MEC Yawa will be on site to deliver on his
earlier undertaking, however, it remains to be seen whether SABC2âs Morning
Live, the Honourable Reverend and Daily Sun among other publications will be
there to witness the hand-over of the project and publish the story to the
effect that, in the real world a compassionate and caring government does
indeed deliver on its undertakings despite the heavy rainfall experienced in
the past three months.
The emergency housing project for the construction of 60 low cost houses to
replace 35 dilapidated one roomed mud houses commenced in December 2008.It is
part of the multi-sectoral intervention by provincial and sectoral government
departments to alleviate the plight of the impoverished rural community.
