Government on joint inclusive government in Zimbabwe

South African government's comment on the MDC-T decision to
join an inclusive government in Zimbabwe

30 January 2009

South Africa welcomes the reported decision of the MDC-T today, Friday, 30
January 2009 to join the ranks of the inclusive government in Zimbabwe.

Coming against the background of the earlier decision today among the
Zimbabwean political parties Zanu-PF and the two MDC formations, to launch the
Joint Monitoring and Implementation Committee, the decision of the MDC-T
underlines the commitment of the Zimbabwean political parties to implement
fully the provisions of the global political agreement as facilitated by former
President Thabo Mbeki in his capacity as South African Development Community
facilitator of the Zimbabwean dialogue as well as the outcomes of the recent
Southern African Development Community (SADC) Summit in Pretoria.

We are of the view that the formation of the inclusive government in
Zimbabwe will help lay the foundation for the people of Zimbabwe to begin to
address current challenges facing their country in all their manifestations
while preparing ground for the creation of conditions for the holding of free
and fair elections in the future.
