The Gauteng Youth Commission notes with sadness the untimely death of its
Deputy Chairperson, Nonkululeko Mohomane. Mohomane was discovered dead in her
house in Pretoria West on Friday, 23 November 2007. The cause of death is still
not known. Mohomane was one of seven commissioners appointed by Premier
Mbhazima Shilowa when the GYC was established in June 2006. GYC is a statutory
body established to advice government on development of youth in Gauteng.
"We have been saddened by the death of our colleague and comrade.
Nonkululeko was a devoted youth leader who believed in the development of all
young people. Her brilliance was reflected in her work, innovative ideas and
belief that young people should be part of the process that seeks to empower
them. We pass our deepest condolences to her family and friends and hope they
find strength during this time of their bereavement," said GYC Chairperson
Lebogang Maile.
The CEO of the GYC, Masabata Mutlaneng said the Commission was in touch with
the family and will announce funeral arrangements in due course. "We will
inform our stakeholders of the necessary date and time of the funeral as soon
this has been communicated to us by the family," said Mutlaneng.
