The Gauteng Department of Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation will host the
finals of the Diski 5 GP Five-a-Side Football Tournament ahead of the Soccerex
Football Festival to be played by the European and African football legends,
among them Lucas Radebe, Mark Fish, former Chelsea player Nigel Spackman,
Arsenal's Tony Woodcock, Liverpool's Phil Thompson and Manchester United's
Clayton Blackmore.
The tournament, which is part of the Soccerex World Football Convention,
aims to deepen youth participation in sport and to serve as a vehicle to start
up processes of having different forms of football activities which contribute
to football development initiatives linked to legacy projects as progress to
the 2010 Federation International Football Association (Fifa) World Cup and
beyond.
The Five-a-Side style of soccer is a street soccer which is well known in
South African soccer circles. Its popularity has given birth to many
professional players like the legendary Jomo Sono, Teenage Dladla, Ace Khuse
and recently dribbling and skilful players such as Scara Ngobese and DukuDuka
Makhanya. Through creative and skilful players Gauteng, will take this culture
to the world during the Soccerex.
