Gauteng MECs will on Wednesday, 9 May 2007, visit various communities in the
Sedibeng district as part of the provincial government's Imbizo campaign of
direct interaction with residents.
The region faces challenges of poverty and unemployment but has made
important strides, including through social delivery as well as development of
a Growth and Development Strategy for the district. The strategy plans to
strengthen value-added agriculture, the steel and energy sector and tourism and
leisure.
The Gauteng Imbizo gives residents an opportunity to raise their concerns
and suggestions directly with government leaders. The MECs, together with local
government leaders in the area will have an opportunity to speak to locals
about development plans and government programmes being implemented in their
area and the broader Gauteng city region.
Direct dialogue and feedback from communities enables government to
streamline service delivery aimed at improving people's lives.
The venues for the public meetings are as follows:
* MEC Firoz Cachalia: De Deur Soccer Field
* MEC Khabisi Mosunkutu: Jameson Park Community Hall
* MEC Qedani Mahlangu: Bophelong Community Hall
* MEC Ignatius Jacobs: Isak Steyn Stadium, Vaal University of Technology
* MEC Angie Motshekga: Skansdam School, Randvaal
* MEC Kgoagelo Lekgoro: Marquee next to Vaaldam Primary School
* MEC Brian Hlongwa: Vischkuil Community Hall
