Gauteng Economic Development on Women achievers in Business deadline
extension

Call for nominations as Gauteng Department of Economic
Development plans to honour women in business

23 August 2007

The Gauteng Department of Economic Development has extended the deadline for
the nomination of women achievers in business to 31 August 2007.

The nominations are in preparation of the Passing of the Torch Awards which
will be held on 10 October 2007. The awards are aimed at honouring women who
are making their mark in finance, infrastructure development, film, tourism,
trade, services and manufacturing. These sectors have been identified by the
Gauteng Provincial Government as central to accelerating the growth of the
provincial economy and job creation. Members of the public are encouraged to
nominate women who have distinguished themselves in these sectors.

The overall criteria for nominations are:

* Nominees should be in business and have to be people who have made a
considerable contribution to economic growth and job creation in Gauteng.
* Those nominated should be role models in their communities.

Women who are chosen as winners in the various categories will be presented
with awards and will be "torch bearers" for twelve months after which they will
pass on the torch to other women who would have been nominated for next year's
event.

The torch symbolises the role these women will be playing in lighting the
way and motivating others to follow in their footsteps.

Nomination forms are available on the website http://www.gauteng.gov.za or by calling Fezile
on Tel: 011 355 8087 or Cell: 083 339 7689.
