The Gauteng Department of Community Safety's anti-truck hijacking unit
yesterday arrested a police reservist for driving a vehicle with false number
plates. Both the front and rear plates were different and neither could be
identified on the e-Natis system on verification.
The owner who was the passenger on the vehicle paid, on the spot, an
admission of guilt fine and was subsequently released while the driver, a
police reservist stationed at Benoni Police Station, Firearm training unit was
arrested is due to appear at the Kempton Park Magistrates court today for
driving a vehicle with falsified number plates.
The department urges motorists to comply with the traffic rules at all times
and ensure that their vehicles are properly registered.
