Vehicle Licence Testing Centre official arrested for
fraud

23 March 2009

A 37-year-old female official stationed at the Langlaagte Vehicle Testing
Centre was arrested on Monday, 23 March 2009, for alleged involvement in
issuing of fraudulent public drivers permit (PDP).

The issued document (PDP) does not appear on the e-Natis System and no
application file was found during the audit. It was further discovered that a
falsified medical examination report was submitted. Also no fingerprints
records were found at the Local Criminal Records Centre.

This arrest is a result of ongoing routine checks conducted by the
anti-corruption unit of the Department of Community Safety in an effort to root
out fraud and corruption at driver's and vehicle licence testing centres across
Gauteng. More arrests are expected soon.

The public is urged to refrain from trying to obtain licenses illegally as
this contributes greatly to the high levels of road fatalities. Any act of
corruption can be reported on 0800 701 701.
