MEC for Agriculture Gugile Nkwinti invites you to an official hand over of
four shearing sheds and two dipping tanks to villages situated in Tsolo area.
The hand over of these resources by Nkwinti follows a visit by the MEC and HOD
Advocate Amon Nyondo together with other officials to the areas.
After witnessing the beauty of sheep in the area, the Head of the Department
(HOD) promised that the department will build shearing shed in a bid to endorse
the departmentâs goal of reaching international markets through its livestock
improvement programmes.
The sheep flock in the Tsolo area is rich with wool and it will be one of
the departmentâs milestone resource centres in its aim to make the agreement
between it and National Wool Growers Association (NWGA) viable and sustainable.
The departmentâs goal of producing high quality wool has led it to enter into
an agreement with NWGA, which ensures the emerging rural wool producers reach
the international market.
Recently, the NWGA revealed that the Eastern Cape wool, particularly in
Kolomane area at Nxuba municipality was earning foreign currencly. The
provision of shearing sheds and dipping tanks is part of the departmentâs
strategy of green revolution which seeks to provide infrastracture as well as
ensuring food security and livestock improvement in order to reach increased
economic activity and global competitiveness.
The hand over of the resources will ensure that rural communities
participate in the national and international market through the departmentâs
intensive agrarian transformation programme.
