Single Public Service
27 August 2007
Public Service and Administration Minister Geraldine Fraser-Moleketi met
labour unions representing municipal workers in Pretoria today, 27 August 2007,
regarding government's Single Public Service initiative as part of social
dialogue.
In addition to the Department of Public Service and Administration,
government was represented in the meeting by the Department of Provincial and
Local Government (DPLG), as well as the South African Local Government
Association (Salga).
The meeting agreed that the scope of public consultations on relevant
legislation for the Single Public Service legislation will be broadened to the
National Economic, Development and Labour Council (Nedlac).
The Single Public Service initiative is introduced primarily to provide for
administration in all three spheres of government that is better organised and
that operates in ways that ensure efficient, quality, collaborative and
accountable service delivery to promote social and economic development.
