Novo Nordisk Changing Diabetes Bus visiting the Free
State.

The Novo Nordisk Changing Diabetes Bus Project will be officially opened
during the SEMDSA Congress in Bloemfontein at 10h00 on Saturday, 30 June 2007
outside the Francie van Zyl Building, University of the Free State,
Bloemfontein. Changing Diabetes Bus travelling plan is as follows:

Novo Nordisk is a healthcare company committed to improving the lives of
those who have diabetes and educating the general public on how they can
prevent types diabetes. Non communicable diseases are becoming a leading cause
of mortality and disability especially in developing countries. Diabetes is a
growing epidemic that threatens to overwhelm the health care services and
undermine the economies worldwide.

The United Nations General Assembly passed a resolution on 20 December 2006,
recognising the global threat of Diabetes. The United Nations Resolution
focuses the World's attention on the need to stop the growing Diabetes epidemic
through urgent action. The mobile Changing Diabetes bus is to raise awareness
on Diabetes, to give advice, information, do screening for diabetes and refer
to the nearest health facilities. Activities in the bus are free:

1. blood glucose testing
2. blood pressure checking
3. waist circumference measurements
4. health information and advice.
