26 March 2009
Corporate management at the Free State Department of Health would like to
accept the health conscious challenge by also taking part in the phenomenal
experience of global Earth Hour. Due to the fact that global earth hour is on
28 Saturday March at 20h30, the corporate health management at Bophelo House
will celebrate Earth Hour 2009 on 27 Friday March from 13h30 to 14h00. All the
lights and plugs of Bophelo House will be switched off from the main electrical
box for this period. (Due to security concerns, physical and information
related, the Information Technology (IT) server room and the security control
room will remain operational during this period)
During the 30 minutes of shut-down, Bophelo House staff will be required to
gather on the ground floor main entrance to embrace the impact of their action,
voting Earth. Officials are urged to:
* utilise this honourable moment positively one minute of silence to be
observed on the ground floor main entrance and a short prayer afterwards
* reschedule meetings prior lunch or after 14h00
* as global warming affects the health of all humans, this initiative
concurrently goes with the message of healthy lifestyle in our everyday
lives.
All officials of the Free State Department of Health are encouraged to take
part in global earth hour by switching of the lights at their homes between
20h30 and 21h30 on Saturday, 28 March 2009. They are also encouraged to pledge
their support for Earth Hour 2009 by logging on to www.earthhour.org.za and
register.
However, no lights will be switched of at the health institutions and
service delivery will take place as usual.
The media is invited to witness what could possibly be a first for the Free
State.
Global earth hour background
Saturday, 28 March 2009 at 20h30 local time is declared earth hour 2009, the
worldâs first global election between earth and global warming. Switching off
your lights is a vote for earth, or leaving them on is a vote for global
warming. World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) are urging the world to vote earth
and reach the target of one billion votes, which will be presented to world
leaders at the Global Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen 2009. An
initiative of the WWF that started two years ago, Earth Hour is now the largest
event of its kind in the world and this year promises to be even bigger!
Vote Earth, combat climate change, switch off your lights and maintain a
healthy and self-reliant Free State community.
