Your media house is cordially invited to the International Mother Tongue Day
celebration that will be held as follows:
Date: 23 February 2007
Time: 18h30 for 19h00
Venue: Thabo Mofutsanyana Municipality Offices (Old Parliamentary Building),
Qwa Qwa.
Speakers at the function will include the MEC for Sport, Arts and Culture,
Ms Susan Mnumzana, the Mayor of Maluti a Phofung, Dr Eddie Mzangwa and several
others. All the speakers will be requested to speak in their own mother tongue
and their speeches will then be interpreted to the audience attending the
function.
Interpreting services will be provided at the event, using state of the art
interpreting equipment, to demonstrate the need to, as much as possible,
promote all the official languages in the province.
In the context of the draft language policy which is currently being
consulted with the stakeholders and communities, mother tongue promotion is an
important campaign that will be enhanced through such functions.
The celebration of International Mother Tongue day will serve to highlight
the importance of according the necessary dignity and respect to all official
languages of our country and province.
